A direct and intimate study of the male figure by Max Smolow, rendered in expressive black line. The seated body is approached with economy: loose contours define the posture while denser passages of ink articulate the face, torso and hands, creating a tension between precision and spontaneity.
The work has the immediacy of a gesture drawing, while its frontal composition and raw treatment of the body give it a distinctly graphic presence. Smolow’s line moves freely between observation and abstraction, leaving parts of the figure deliberately unresolved.
