REN HANG, MUCH MORE THAN INSPIRATION

Ren Hang was an acclaimed photographer known for his provocative images of Beijing's youth subculture. Ren Hang did not study art or photography formally. His works are easily recognisable by the exposure of the naked bodies of people of all sexes. The surreal, sculptural interweaving of limbs, lips and red nails, animals and props, and his exploration of Chinese homosexuality, make him magnetic. By the age of 27 he had exhibited more than 50 times in countries such as France, Italy, the UK, the Netherlands and, of course, China. Ren Hang passed away on 24 February 2017.

An artist who has inspired us in the composition of some of our designs, especially the Antinoo jockstrap, and whose work leaves a legacy full of creativity and eroticism that transcends genre boundaries.

We recommend his acclaimed photography book ‘Ren Hang’ published by Tachen.
